The Newcastle Emlyn Supper Club - a free social group set up in January this year for those stuck in a rut and keen to get out and meet new people, is holding a big twmpath/barn dance evening at Newcastle Emlyn Rugby Club on Friday April 22.

In the company of Ceilidh band Caffl – music to move you, from Saundersfoot, the evening promises to be entertaining. The band offers an exciting, eclectic and lively twist to the traditional music repertoire and one of the organisers, Sue Tabbitt is keen to get as many people as possible to attend.

She said: ‘The event is open to all adults and people are encouraged to come even if they don't know anyone. You certainly don't need a partner. We hope it will be a great ice-breaker event - a fun evening where new friendships can be formed, in a light-hearted, social atmosphere.’

The Pembrokeshire based five piece band has developed an energetic and innovative style to their Celtic roots music. This is reflected in the musical line-up, which includes Uilleann pipes, fiddle, saxophone, keyboard, bass, drums, bouzouki and assorted woodwind. The tunes and songs are just as varied, drawn from the British Isles and further afield from the slow and simple to the fast and furious.

The core members include the talented Jenkins family. Pipes and reedsman Eifion and fiddler Joy are both experienced Ceilidh band players while their children Siriol, on keyboards, and Talfan, on sax and drums, have a considerable collection of instrumental prizes from music festivals and the National Urdd Eisteddfod. Paul Sharp on bass adds that all-important bottom line.

‘We’re really looking forward to the Supper Club event,’ said band member Eifion Jenkins. ‘I think a ceilidh or twmpath really comes into its own – it’s something everyone can join in without feeling self-conscious.

‘Our caller Jules Rutter is a very affable guy and really it’s not about the quality of the dancing. It’s just a great ice-breaker and really gets people together,’ concluded Eifion.

Tickets cost £12, to cover the cost of a live band and a buffet. Tickets are available from Newcastle Emlyn Supper Club members (sign up for free on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/997295663674753/ ), or during the week from Totally Tootsies Footcare (next door to Pachamama, near the clock tower in Newcastle Emlyn), between 10am and 2pm. Come and join the fun evening which starts at 7pm
