SIXTH form students from Ysgol Bro Gwaun got to live the American dream over the summer.

Amy Leahy and Isaac Davis won the opportunity to visit some of the states’ most prestigious universities as part of the Sutton Trust US programme.

They were part of a group of 175 students chosen from more than 2,000 applicants across the UK.

Jetting off on August 5, the pair landed in Boston, with Amy heading to Yale University and Isaac to MIT.

Between them, they visited Columbia, Barnard, Smith, Princeton, Amherst and Dartmouth schools before finishing the week together at Harvard.

Aside from all the university visits, there were also plenty of extra-curricular activities, with Isaac taking a road and river tour of Boston and Amy travelling to New York to visit the 9/11 memorial museum, before attending an evening at the British Consulate General’s penthouse in the city.

Amy said: “We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the USA and are eager to return.

“After visiting all these world class universities, the next step is to decide whether or not to pursue undergraduate or graduate study either in the UK or the USA."

Amy added: “We would like to thank the Sutton Trust and the Fulbright commission for the opportunity, but especially Mrs Elizabeth Hooper, Head of Sixth Form at Ysgol Bro Gwaun, for putting us forward for the programme.”
