A SOUTH Pembrokeshire tractor run, started in memory of a local farmer, has now raised more than £8,500 for local charities.

Taking place on Saturday, September 13, this year’s Hundleton vintage tractor run saw enthusiasts from around the county rev up their engines to raise money for a good cause.

The annual event was started by a group of friends in 2008, in memory of the late Lloyd Richards - who farmed in Angle before moving to Pembroke.

So far, it has raised money for several local charities, including the Paul Sartori Foundation, Angle RNLI and the Friends of South Pembs Hospital.

Lloyd’s daughter-in-law Jo said this year’s event, which attracted 66 entries from across the county, and as far afield as Ireland, was a huge success, raising around £800.

“We couldn’t have asked for better weather,” she said.

“It’s growing every year, it’s getting so popular.

“People love to see the tractors on the road. It’s a bit of history that seems to just put a smile on people’s faces.

“These machines are part of our countryside heritage.”

“It’s lovely to see so many people interested in something that Lloyd would have loved,” she added.

Jo thanked everyone who came out to support the run, those who donated raffle prizes and helped with refreshments, and staff at the Highgate Inn and Cresselly Arms.

“We couldn’t do it without them,” she said.

Organisers will decide which local cause benefits from this year’s run at their next meeting, held later this month.
