A CARER at a Johnston nursing home has taken a leap of faith to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Twenty-one-year-old Amy Nutton, who has worked at The Meadows care home for two and a half years, raised £680 by jumping 12,000 feet from a plane.
Amy said she was inspired to raise money for the charity by her work at the home, which provides specialist care for elderly patients with dementia.
As well as providing personal care to 41 elderly mentally infirm clients, staff at the Meadows also run regular group activities, including singing and music groups, to help keep their minds active.
“I never knew much about the condition before, it’s opened my eyes as to how much care they need,” said Amy.
“You get a lot out of it though, you get a lot of joy from helping them.
“I was so shy when I started, it’s really brought me out my shell.”
Amy said her co-workers thought she was mad to do the jump, but after a great experience she is now hoping to do something else wild for charity.
