A MAN had to be Tasered by police officers during a violent incident in the centre of Haverfordwest, early on Sunday morning.

A witness saw a man dressed only in jogging bottoms shouting and screaming in the car park of the Lidl store, near the Churnworks roundabout in the town, shortly before 10am.

The witness, who asked not to be named, said the man was obviously agitated, pacing around and shouting and swearing loudly.

Police were called and the man’s behaviour again worsened, resulting in officers deploying the Taser – a non-lethal single shot weapon which incapacitates through electrical current.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police told the Western Telegraph: "Police received a number of calls on the morning of Sunday 21st September raising concern about the behaviour of a male in Haverfordwest.

“The male was arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace, however became violent and following a warning a Taser was discharged.

“The male was medically examined and later released on bail pending further police enquiries."

Earlier this year figures were released which showed that Dyfed-Powys Police officers had used Tasers 26 times in the previous year, the least of all forces in Wales.

The Taser was introduced by Dyfed-Powys Police in 2007.
