PEACE, love and unity was the message on the streets of Haverfordwest as campaigners marked an international day of peace.

Twenty-seven people took part in a 'peace procession' through the county town on Sunday (September 21), organised by Gwyn Thomas and friend Angela Newman.

Gwyn said the purpose of the walk was to ask governments to 'show greater respect for people around the world, find common ground between different faiths and cultures, and build bridges to find a common future for us all'.

"I'd seen so much killing on the news, I just thought I need to do something," he said.

"I've got kids and I just feel a sense of responsibility. I don't want this as their legacy.

The group proceeded to Haverfordwest Castle, where they enjoyed a picnic in the late summer sun.

All those attending also took the opportunity to voice their own concerns.

A specially commissioned 'peace stamp', crafted by local wood turner Jerome Kelleher, was used to stamp letters pre-written for participants to send to foreign embassies requesting they make world peace a priority.

Gwyn and Angela thanked everyone who attended and to those who couldn't but lent their support, and a special thanks was extended to Mike Chivers of Core FM, who filmed and photographed the whole event.

Anyone wanting to to send a copy of the peace letter can contact Gwyn through the Peace, Love and Unity page on Facebook.
