CHANGES are afoot at SPARK, a shop selling Pembrokeshire-made arts and crafts on Haverfordwest’s High Street.

SPARK is run by a cooperative of artists and craftspeople, and any local creative is welcome to join and showcase their wares right in the heart of the town.

The group has been busy making alterations to the building’s basement to provide more gallery space and a performance area. They also hope to re-open the in-house café soon.

“We’re evolving rapidly, and our landlord John Nicholas is being very, very supportive,” said SPARKie Angie Newman. “Having opened up the space downstairs, we can accommodate more people and we hope to host events such as cult TV show nights and food tastings. We’re also looking to run regular creative workshops for children accompanied by a parent, and for adults too.”

SPARK is working with the Shaw Trust - a national charity that helps disadvantaged people gain work experience - to provide paid placements, and has branched out in to stocking foodstuffs from Jams Up and Oh Sugar Plum.

“We’re still looking for members and we want to rent the café out to someone who would like to offer interesting food,” said Angie. “Also, if you’d like to run a workshop here, get in touch – we’ve got a great space for you to use.”

SPARK is holding an Easter Bonnet workshop for children at the shop from 11am to 3.30pm on Saturday (April 4). Children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is £5 per child, including all materials and an Easter lolly.
