It will be a case of hair today and gone tomorrow for a devoted animal rescuer today (Saturday).

Evette Eardley has volunteered to shed her beloved red locks to raise money for Greenacres Animal Rescue.

The 34-year-old from Haverfordwest has been a volunteer at Greenacres for almost five years and has fostered more than 60 animals during that time.

“I love it, it’s so rewarding to help such beautiful animals to find their forever homes,” she said.

“I’m their foster mummy and I have a cry after every single one leaves, as they have all touched my heart.”

The majority of dogs Evette takes in have been saved from the pounds in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, which have a policy to destroy dogs that have stayed beyond seven days.

Evette admits that she has failed twice in her fostering duties and has adopted a dog and a cat, and is now the proud owner of three dogs, three cats and two ferrets.

Evette is friends with Mikey Lawlor who started Greenacres seven years ago when he realised there was a need for a local rescue centre. She said re-homing is very slow at the moment and if it carries on the Talbenny-based rescue centre could be forced to close.

“That was when I knew I had to do something,” said Evette, who has volunteered to shave her head during the Greenacres fun day at the Pill Social Centre in Milford Haven on April 18.

“Anyone who knows me knows how much I love my hair. I blow dry it, straighten it and can’t leave the house without it being done.”

Evette is hoping to raise £2,000, which will cover a month’s veterinary bill.
