YOUNGSTERS from a Tenby school can’t wait for the start of the new term and to put their new playground to the test.

The outdoor play area for Class One of St Teilo’s School has been funded by the Friends of St Teilo’s as the first phase of its Play for Life project.

A busy year of fundraising has seen £12,300 raised.

“When we started last September with the gala dinner and grand prize draw, we could never have imagined we would raise this amount of money in nine months,” said Friends chair, Nicole Ferguson.

The Early Years playground now provides a safe and fun play area, with an all-weather surface meaning no more mud, an adventure trail including wobble board, zig-zag stepper and clatter bridge and even a loudspeaker.

St Teilo’s acting head, Angie Nicholls, said: “This really is a fantastic effort which could not have been achieved without all the huge help and support from parents, friends, staff and businesses of Tenby. The project also benefitted from generous match funding from Santander and Barclays. It’s going to be a great asset for the school, enabling young pupils to develop their spatial awareness, balance, control and co-ordination in a safe and fun environment.”

Other fundraising activities included a More than a Marathon bike ride by the staff, as well as various raffles organized by the children and the annual Christmas Fayre.

Class One teacher Mrs Blake said: “The children are really excited about their new playground and can’t wait for September to test it out! We are so grateful for the efforts of the Friends of St Teilo’s in making this happen.”

The school eagerly looks forward to Phase 2 which will include the enhancement of the main playground.
