JERUSALEM, the wild west, and gipsy weddings were just some of the themes that lit up a hugely successful St Davids Peninsula Carnival on Bank Holiday Saturday.

This year, organisers chose to alter the name of the event to the ‘peninsula’ carnival to encourage more people outside of the local community to join in – and the move paid dividends as large crowds gathered outside of Oriel-Y-Parc to support those who had entered a float or dressed up.

And in bright sunshine, it was the St Davids WI who were adjudged the winners, with their ‘More than Jam Jersualem’ float, while the ‘My Big Fat St Davids Wedding’ entry scooped the prize for the best small float.

The Carnival Queen on the day was Kegan Leigh-Jones, with Phoebe Guy as Rose Queen, and Annie Colfer, Rebecca Lindsay, Sebastian and Samantha Samaani, Ffion Davies, and Libby Richards all acted as attendants.

The local fire brigade, who had earlier held their open recruitment day, were also on hand to offer their support and help guide the large amount of spectators who had assembled in the city centre.

Following the parade, the entertainment continued at St Davids RFC, with visitors able to enjoy a car boot sale, bouncy castles, face painting, a rodeo bull, and a host of refreshment and food stalls. The braver visitors were also able to pose with a snake and other animals.

Those in attendance also enjoyed a prize raffle and live music from the Milford Haven Town Band – ang youngsters and adults alike were able to get competitive in a series of amusing running races and tug of war contests.

Main event organiser Keeley Rose thanked main sponsors the Retreats Group, as well as all those who also offered sponsorship and made donations to the day.

She also praised the work of fellow carnival committee members, and everyone else who had offered support or voluntarily contributed to the event.

"We are a small committee and everyone did really well to organise such a massive day," she said.

"And we are always on the lookout for more volunteers so anyone wanting to help out with the 2016 carnival - please get in touch."
