A nurse at Withybush Hospital will face a fitness to practise hearing this week over eight separate counts of misconduct.

Natalie Anne Watts will appear before the Nursing and Midwifery Council at Temple Court, Cardiff for a nine day hearing due to start today (Wednesday).

It is alleged that while employed as a band 5 staff nurse at Withybush Hospital Watts failed in her duties on 14 occasions over a period of nearly 17 months.

Allegations refer to the treatment of seven different patients; Patients A, B and C and four other unknown patients.

Ms Watts is accused of incorrectly administering the drug Tinzaparin to a patient in October 2012, and failing to escort another patient to theatre the following month.

In July 2013 she is alleged to have failed to carry out and record observations and to have failed to record a patient’s vital signs.

In December of that year Watts is accused of preparing intravenous medication unaccompanied, and failing to follow the correct procedure when taking a patient’s blood pressure.

Also in December 2013 Watts is alleged to have failed to administer or record the administration of the drug digoxin or to take the patient’s pulse manually prior to administering the drug.

A different charge relating to the same day is that Watts failed to escalate a mark on a patient’s heel which could have indicated pressure damage.

On two separate occasions in 2013 she is alleged to have calculated a National Early Warning Score incorrectly.

The hearing is due to conclude on September 11.
