Plans for a Welsh medium school for children aged 3-16 in Haverfordwest are to move forward despite a lack of agreement about where it would be sited.
As reported here Pembrokeshire County Council has postponed its proposal to close Sir Thomas Picton and Tasker Milward secondary Schools in Haverfordwest.
Originally, the plan was to create a new school at STP and use the then-vacant Tasker’s site for a new Welsh medium school.
But failure to reach agreement with the Tasker Milward and Picton Charity means the Welsh medium school may have to find a new home.
The report to the extraordinary meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council next week states: “Due to the current lack of agreement with the Trustees of Tasker Milward and Picton Charity in relation to post 16 provision in Haverfordwest, it is not feasible to consider either of the existing secondary school sites for this purpose.
"As a result, consideration will be given to alternative sites in the Haverfordwest area.”
The report recommends a statutory consultation on a proposal to close Ysgol Gymraeg Glan Cleddau in Haverfordwest and establish a new 3-16 Welsh medium school in the county town
Post 16 Welsh medium provision would then be provided at Ysgol y Preseli.
The extraordinary council meeting takes place on Thursday at County Hall at 10am and the public is free to attend.
