A Haverfordwest man stripped naked and went berserk, climbing into a pub through a window before hurling furniture at the landlord and police.

Christopher Watts, aged 25, pleaded guilty at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court to four charges of assaulting police officers, one charge of common assault on a paramedic and a charge of criminal damage.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones said it was a bizarre case.

He added Watts was in Pendine around 11am on Sunday, September 6, when he was approached by officers.

He added: “The defendant was around 100 yards from the centre of the village when an officer approached him.

“He was mumbling about being electrocuted and dancing on the spot.

“He then stripped naked and ran towards the middle of Pendine and was seen by the officer climbing through the window of the pub.”

Once inside the Springwell Inn, Watts was challenged by the landlord Paul Bowring.

Efforts were made to calm him down and Watts was cornered by the officer and Bowring.

“The PC tried to arrest Watts and there was a violent struggle.

“Watts was throwing tables and chairs around trying to escape.”

Eventually, attempts were made by the PC to arrest Watts for criminal damage and another officer arrived.

Watts began punching and kicking out at the arresting PC and incapacitating spray canisters had to be used.

However, the officers still had to fight to keep him on the floor.

Mr Vaughan said: “He then bit the PC to his hand, on the webbing between the thumb and index finger.”

An ambulance was called for and he managed to break free from restraints lifting his body and biting the paramedic.

Three officers also had to hold him down in the ambulance.

He also spat at the officers and the ambulance had to stop in Carmarthen to pick up two further police officers to assist in the back of the ambulance en route to Glangwili Hospital where Watts was sedated.

The court heard from defence solicitor Andrew Isaacs that Watts had no memory of his actions over the 45 minute incident, just that ‘his head changed’ and it was all a blur.

He remembered going to a large house in Pendine that morning where people were doing drugs such as M-kat (mephedrone) and heroin — but he did not take anything.

Judge David Parsons said it was serious offence and that the paramedic and officer who were bit had to have blood tests and are anxious of the results to see if they have contracted anything as a result.

Fighting back tears in the dock, Watts, of Coronation Avenue, Haverfordwest, was jailed for 14 weeks. He was also made to pay £200 compensation to the bitten PC and paramedic, and £75 compensation to each of the officers.
