THE force was with more than 200 Star Wars fans who visited Pembroke Dock’s historic Market Hall for the town’s first Star Wars pop-up cinema event last Saturday, May 21.

The event celebrated the Royal Dockyard’s claim to fame as the birthplace of the only full-size Millennium Falcon spaceship prop ever made.

A fantastic range of Star Wars characters were on display, both from the event organisers and audience members. The best costumes on the night won Oakwood tickets.

As well as a showing of latest Star Wars film The Force Awakens, there was a Star Wars photo screen from Showboat TV, Star Wars character makeup and sculptures by local artist Ivan Black, as well as by engineers working with Futureworks.

Star Wars goodies were on sale by Wow in the St Govans Centre, Cardcraft and the Communities First Treasure shop, and hot food was on offer from the Green Kettle Cafe. The team were also serving popcorn, candy floss, ice-cream, and there were hot drinks from The Bean and a licensed bar.

Local engineer Guy Anderson produced a nine foot Millennium Falcon replica, which was on display on the night, and is in the process of being fully painted and detailed by Haven Emporio.

The event was organised by Pembroke Dock Regeneration Team and the Tenby-based Rooms with a View cinema group, supported by Pembrokeshire County Council.

Event sponsors included the Cleddau Bridge Hotel, Inprint, Parfitts Carpets, Parry’s Shoes, Reba Hair Salon, Redline Tools and Synchro Motor Factors.

A new promotional hashtag #thedockstrikesback is being used by the team behind the event and it is hoped to make the Star Wars pop-up cinema and celebrations an annual event in the town.

Pembroke Dock Regeneration team meet on the first Monday of the month at 5.30pm in the Pater Hall and welcomes new volunteers to help organise similar events.
