A SKATE jam in memory of a Milford Haven boy who died in a car crash in February has raised over £500 for Adam’s Bucketful of Hope.

Dozens took part in the fundraising event earlier this month at Haverfordwest skatepark in memory of Morgan Power, who died following a collision on the M4.

Last week, friends of Morgan, fundraisers and representatives from Haverfordwest Skatepark Association (HSA) handed over a cheque for £522 to Christine Evans-Thomas of Adam’s Bucketful of Hope.

The event came about earlier in the year as skatepark users Callum Howard and Iestyn Nash approached HSA with the idea of a fundraising skate jam.

“We were really happy to support this and the boys worked hard getting prizes and spreading the word,” said Alison Turner, secretary of HSA.

“The atmosphere on the day was amazing and a real tribute to Morgan.

“We had great support from many local businesses, particularly in Milford.”

Taking place on Saturday, September 10, a BBQ and raffle helped collect money for Adam’s Bucketful of Hope which supports cancer care at Withybush Hospital.

Two friends of Morgan, Jimmy Cobes and Eddie Edwards went a step further and raised £110 by selling specially-designed Morgan Power Jam stickers.

This effort by Jimmy is all the more inspirational given that he has recently overcome cancer himself.

Ms Evans-Thomas said it was “absolutely fabulous” that they had raised money through the skate jam.

“It’s great that the boys have done this all themselves,” she said.

As a result of the community spirit, strong turnout and fundraising, HSA hope to make the jam an annual event.

The association has also created the Morgan Power Inspirational Person Award.

“We want to recognise those who contribute in a positive way to making the skatepark a good place to be, not only for their skill, but also their attitude to life and others,” said Alison.

“Jimmy received the award this year for his courage, strength and inspiration.”

Morgan died on Friday, February 12, when a van he was travelling in with his father, Karl, crashed near Swansea.

Following Morgan's death, his mother Claire, and brother, Jay, described him as a "wonderful and cherished son, brother, grandson, nephew, godson, cousin and boyfriend".
