Easter Walks The second walk in the Coast Path series took place on Friday April 10 from Newport to Fishguard – “what a difference to the first one from Poppet”

Myself and Daphne and Graham were joined by Rhian, members of Llandewi Velfrey WI and a few friends.

Leaving the cars at Fishguard we got on the service bus to Newport, ladies from Fishguard WI were there to see us off.

No high wind - we had sunshine, it was ideal walking weather and although the stretch was 12 miles and quite rough terrain in places it was relatively easy in comparison.

The only downside was MUD, after the heavy rain in the night, some of the path was very muddy and slippery. I landed on my bottom a few times, some of the other ladies also slipped – all soft landings.

The scenery was spectacular and the gorse growing in abundance gave off a delightful perfume. Other flowers to be seen were – thrift, primroses, violets and broom.

Sea birds nesting in the cliffs and rocks, we were also lucky enough to see the arrival of the first migrating swallows.

At the end of the walk on the Parrog at Newport, myself and Daphne were given a delicious ice cream by- Joy a member of Camrose WI, who has her Ice Cream van there based there.

Easter Monday we were joined by a few friends and WI members and carried on from the Parrog at Fishguard to Strumble Head After walking up the very steep hill to Harbour Village we joined the Coast Path, from there the walk was very enjoyable – not to many ups and downs and very little mud.

Once again - breath taking scenery and beautiful spring flowers.

We saw quite a number of seals, and also were very lucky to spot a school of porpoise on approaching Strumble Head.

We finished the walk just in time before the rain came.
