“RAISE THE ROOF”

An update on the progress of the Sponsored Walk.

By May 3rd Daphne and myself will have walked 87.5 miles along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Apart from the first day when we walked 16 miles in horrendous conditions with a force 8 gale blowing, each day has been a delight, with sunny skies, good company and nature showing off - gorse in full bloom, primroses, violets, and many other spring flowers at their best.

On Thursday April 16th we walked the stretch from Newgale to Broad Haven, to cut back on some of the very long walks later on. Lots of cowslips on this walk.

On Saturday 18th April it was Strumble Head to Trefin - although this was quite a rock climb in some places, it was a great walk, we were joined by a few friends and treated ourselves to a meal afterwards.

Sunday 19th was just Daphne, Graham and myself walking from Trefin to Whitesands.

This was a great walk, not so rocky as the previous with some good long stretches of grassy paths.

We were treated to the choughs in full cry and were lucky to see on the cliffs - a ravens nest with the fledglings awaiting mum back with the food.

Graham, our companion/minder has been a wonderful support, especially encouraging on the difficult parts of the path. He has carried a sponsorship box and encouraged people along the way to support the WI. The response from complete strangers has been overwhelming – already one box has been filled and he has started on another!

The next walk will be on Sunday 26th April from Whitesands to Solva -12.9 miles.
