Sunday June 7th and Tuesday June 9th The walk on Sunday June 7th was from Sandy Haven to the Cleddau Bridge about 12 miles.

Daphne, myself and Graham were joined by 4 WI ladies and a ‘WI husband.

On starting out it was raining but slowly throughout the day it cleared, the sun came out and it was really warm with all our wet weather clothing on - which came off piece by piece.

We did not see many other walkers on this stretch, its not one of the well walked areas. The first part of this walk is very scenic, but as you get closer to Milford the oil terminals are very prominent, and although not like the rest of the Coast Path with lovely views- its all very interesting. Offshore you can see Stack Rock Fort, one of the Victorian defences of the waterway.

As we passed under the landward end of the old Esso jetty we leave the National Park and follow the acorn signs through Gelliswick, Hakin and Milford Haven.

Crossing Black Bridge and up the hill towards Waterston is dangerous on a fast piece of road, it was a relief to turn down the lane to Venn farm.

I have to admit too being rather nervous going over the caged bridges that the oil company have erected in order for the continuation of the coast path – I am glad that bit is over with! The walk through Neyland was very interesting and nearing the Cleddau Bridge it is a pleasant walk on a good path The coastal flowers are moon daisies, police mans buttons and the majestic foxgloves, also the pink campion is still about.

On Tuesday 9th we were joined by two WI ladies – Eileen and Mo who have joined us on quite a few of the walks. This was a ‘Town Trail’.

Starting at the Burton side of Cleddau Bridge through Pembroke Dock on to Pembroke and around the castle, about 4 and a half miles. We treated ourselves to lunch at the Corn Store in Pembroke – a nice change from our usual packed lunch.

Walking through Pembroke Dock we called at the National Parks Office and were informed that from the 15th to 30th of June there will be no road access or parking on the stretch we intended to do on Sunday 28th June ( West Angle Bay to Freshwater West) This is because of the filming of Robin Hood is starting, so we decided to bring that walk forward to Sunday 14th June – it is a very strenuous stretch, not long but a lot of steep climbs and rough terrain so ‘watch this space’.

The next scheduled walk is on Sunday 21st June from Pembroke to Popton
