On Sunday June 14th, Daphne, myself, Graham and the 4 WI members that has been our biggest supporters – Mo & Eileen from Llanddewi Velfrey WI and Shealgh and Carole from Menevia WI joined us for the tough stretch between Angle and Freshwater West. We left the cars at Freshwater West and got on the Coastal Shuttle to walk back from West Angle.

The sight that greeted us in Freshwater West was amazing – a hive of activity, the scenery and special effects for the film Robin Hood was being erected, there were a lot of people there making the most of being able to have access to the lovely beach of Freshwater West until the 30th of June, and to take photo’s of the special effects.

The walk was a strenuous one with lots of steep ascents and descents, but also a very scenic one with the sea on our right the whole time and the coastal flowers on the path at the left. There were lots of pink campion, blue viper’s bugloss, sea holly, bell heather, thrift and the majestic foxgloves are now at their best. There was rather a lot of low gorse and bracken in places which obstructed the path, and some areas were badly in need of being cut back.

We seen guillemots, a cormorant and a group of five choughs together on cliff ledge..

When we got back to Freshwater West there were even more visitors there, Graham took advantage of this and passed the collecting box around, once again people were very generous – even a group of young solders from the nearby army camp.

Our four WI friends left us at this point, and Daphne and myself walked a further 2 and a half miles along the road through Castlemartin village and on the Army Camp main gate where Graham was waiting for us with the car.

Our next walk will be this coming Sunday June 21st from Pembroke to Popton (BPAngle) about 9 and a half miles.
