On Wednesday July 8th Daphne myself and Graham were joined by our friends Dilys and David, and Mo and Eileen to walk the 5-6 miles from Pickleridge to Sandy Haven.

After making sure there was a low tide we set of across the Gann then the shoreline -which wasn’t easy walking on the stones and pebbles.

The cry of the curlews and watching the oystercatchers made you forget the discomfort.

After crossing the lane to continue along the Coast Path we were disappointed to find it had not been cut back, so for quite a long stretch it was a struggle through the heavy growth of grass, nettles and brambles.

It was a relief to come to the wooded path into Monks Haven, which is a lovely sheltered cove. Walking up from Monks Haven there were National Park wardens working hard at cutting back and from there on our path was delightful.

On reaching the stepping stones at Sandy Haven I was pleased to see Graham had the timings right – ‘knew he would really!’ Over we all go and completed the piece of Coast Path we left after the Whitsun Walk ending at Pickleridge.

Our next walk will be on Tuesday July 14th walking from Freshwater East to Skrinkle Haven 6.5 miles. We will only have two walks left then – Sunday 19th July Skrinkle Haven to Tenby then on Saturday 25th July – LAST ONE from Tenby to Amroth, we will be getting a good support that day I am sure and have been promised a celebration tea with Summerhill WI and a greeting from Mr Philip Baker, County Councillor at Saundersfoot and Mr Martin James, Chairman of Amroth Community Council will be at the finishing line to welcome us.
