Seniors

THE seniors’ competition due to be played last Thursday was cancelled because of the very heavy overnight rain and as a result buggies were not allowed on the course; in its place a stableford roll up was organised for the walkers where 20 participated.

The winner for the second time in two days was Trevor George.

The twos kitty was shared by John (Sandy) Sanderson, John Laugharne and Chris Naylor.

The first Tuesday stableford competition for 2015 was held last week where 27 golfers played.

The winner was new player to the roll ups Trevor George with 40 points, he won by three clear points from Russell James. Trevor who plays off a handicap of 17 has just retired from Murco Refinery.

The twos kitty was shared by Mike Durward, John Clark, Martyn Price, Tony Davey, Richard Setterfield and Ivor Mckenzie.

The seniors will be holding stableford competitions on the following dates in January; Thursday 15, 22. On Thursday, 29 a Yellow Ball individual stableford competition will be played; rules for the competition has been posted on the seniors’ notice.

On Thursday, February 26, a blind team stableford competition will be played when the draw for teams will be done after all the players have gone out to play. On Thursday, March 19, a Three Club and a Putter competition will be played.

First draw will be held at 10.30 am for all the senior Thursday competitions.

At a recent meeting of the seniors committee rules for the new golfer of the year which is being introduced in 2015 which was passed at the last seniors annual general meeting was discussed; the competition is to be funded by Chris Naylor, who will also administrate it for the first year.

The competition will be played from the first friendly match of the season on March 26 and end after the last friendly match of the season on September 24 inclusive.

Players will be allocated five points for being available for selection for friendly seniors’ matches; one point for playing in a seniors Thursday competition. Players will receive three points for winning a competition; Two for being in second place and one point for being in third place. The player with the most points at the end of the competition will be named Golfer of the Year.

It was also decided to hold four senior medal competitions during the summer months, two on a Tuesday and two on Thursday, these medal competitions will be in addition to the J & B competition which is to be played on Thursday, June 11.

The member and guest competition will this year be played on Wednesday, June 24.

Ladies

SEVEN ladies played in very chilly and windy conditions; it luckily stayed dry although a bit muddy underfoot. Liz Durward was the winner with 29pts and Barbara Phillips came in second with 25pts.

Lady Vice Captain Veronica John did the presentation in the new Lady Captain Karen Lewis' absence.

Gents

Round 5 of the Winter League was held on a sunny day, but with a cold north-westerly wind.

The biggest win of the day was Paul and Craig Eva winning 8 and 6.

The weekly Roll Up was won by R. Williams with 37pts with 2nd place going to J. Picton with 34pts. A. Mighall struck the only two. Also, well done to Rob Williams, D. Wells and J. Jenkins, they hardly ever miss playing on a Saturday!
