Senior Cup Quarter Final

Neyland 7

Haverfordwest Cricket Club 1

NEYLAND have reached the last four of the Senior Cup after demolishing Haverfordwest Cricket Club at the Athletic Ground.

The second division out started the brighter and they took the lead in the 12th minute, central defender Jamie Cato drilled home from the edge of the area into the far corner.

Minutes later and the visitors nearly doubled their lead, Dean Matthews’ vicious shot came crashing off the crossbar.

However, the division one outfit finely settled and pulled back two goals within the space of a minute to put them ahead.

Gary Power’s slick through ball fell to Henry Durrant, the midfielder finished clinically from 12 yards to level matters. Wayne Parry went in on a 50/50 with Cricket keeper Chris Owen, the ball spilled to Aaron McQuillan who side-footed into the empty net.

Just before the break McQuillan broke clear and added his second goal of the game that gave the Nomads a healthy 3-1 cushion at half time.

The second period was totally one-way traffic as the Nomads constantly had the visitors on the back foot.

Mikey Chandler added a superb fourth with the best strike of the tie. Chandler struck a 25 yard volley crashing into the top right hand corner of Chris Owen’s goal.

Chandler assisted with the fifth; his corner fell kindly at the far post for Sean Hannon to sore with his chest.

The outstanding Wayne Parry scored the Nomads’ sixth with a cheeky lob over Owen and Gary Power headed home Parry’s flick on from an Andrew Davies throw-in to complete the rout.

Neyland will take on fellow first division rivals Narberth in the semi final this Saturday, which will take place at Monkton Lane, kick-off is at 2pm.

In the league Neyland won 5-0 at home and drew 1-1 away, but anything is likely to happen in this mouth-watering cup-tie.
