WRU Women’s Super Cup semi final:

Whitland Ladies 31-12 Pontyclun Falcons

WHITLAND Ladies gained revenge for two successive semi final defeats against Pontyclun Falcons with a superb 31-12 win at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn on Sunday.

The game stated at a furious pace and it was the Borderettes who scored first, with No 10 Alice James using forwards Natalie Walsh, Elin Hywel and Rachel Norris to batter the Pontyclun defence before releasing the ball wide and Sioned Harries followed up her own kick to touch down.

Within minutes Whitland were on the attack again, and from a five metre scrum Walsh picked up and touched down only for the try to be disallowed.

But from the re-set scrum, Walsh again powered through two defenders to score and Harries added the extras.

Pontyclun struck back before half time, having battered the Whitland line before moving the ball wide to Welsh full back Duddgu Hywel, who went under the posts, and Brogan Jones added the extras.

The second half saw Hywel add to her first half score by out sprinting The Borderettes cover to make it 12-12.

This seemed to re-energise the home side and after strong carries from Beca and Rachel Norris, James sliced through to touch down under the posts and Harries converted.

At 19-12 the game could still have gone either way but with 70 minutes gone and from a Ponty scrum, the dominant Borderettes pack turned the ball over and Walsh was the quickest to react, as she picked up and scored under the posts, Harries again converting.

Then with time running out, Tasha Francis and Harries made some hard yards, and James fed Walsh who burst through in midfield and off loaded to Jennie Collins, who in turn fed Delyth Davies to score the try of the game. Harries again added the extras.

It means Whitland are now through to a first ever Super Cup Final against Skewen at Bedwas on May 21.

The Riley Sports Photography Player of the match was Alice James, and Opposition Team Player of the match was Rachel Norris.

The Whitland Ladies under 18s team also made their Super Cup final a comprehensive win over Camarthen Quins by 57-7. The Young Borderettes played some expansive rugby with tries from Nia Walters (3), Libby Jones, Amy Morgan (2), Megan Davies (1), Bethan Lewis (1), Lleucu George (1) - with six of those converted
