THE two newly formed HUB clubs for girls’ rugby in Pembrokeshire have got off to a flying start after holding their respective registration evenings this month.

The Cleddau Wildcats, based at Haverfordwest RFC, held their registration night on Friday, April 15 – with more than 70 players signing up across age groups from under 9-15.

Since then, the HUB has been running the past two Friday’s between 6-7pm with a further 10 girls joining up – whilst another positive has been the recruitment of 11 volunteers to help with coaching, first aid, and administration. Spaces are still available for anyone else who wishes to offer voluntary help, and they will be warmly received by the group.

“The HUB has received excellent support from the clubs with girls coming from all over the area,” said WRU Regional Rugby Co-ordinator Mike King.

“The schools are also fully supportive with the coaching and administrative resources.”

Indeed, along with Mike and other volunteer coaches, school rugby officers Chris Shousha, Steve Martin and Jonny Llewhellin have also been attending sessions.

Furthermore, on Wednesday, April 27, the second HUB club, the Taf Valley Tigers, held their opening session at Parc Dr Owen, Whitland.

There was again a phenomenal response with 70 girls in attendance – and a strong volunteer base headed by Whitland Ladies RFC team manager Suzanne Davies.

There is significant HUB officer support from Geraint Evans and Lloyd Phillips and Community coach Aled Waters – and rugby leaders at Dyffryn Taf School have also been fully supportive,” added Mike.

Again there are volunteer coaches across the age groups from under 9-15, but there is still room for more players and volunteers, who would all receive a warm welcome.

Training sessions for the Tigers will take place every Wednesday at Parc Dr Owen between 6pm-7pm.
