No golden finish, but a silver lining at least.

Fiji have claimed the first ever Men's 7s tournament to be played at an Olympic Games after a 43-7 win over Team GB in the final at the Deodoro Stadium last night (Thursday).

It was a heart-breaking end to a phenomenal three days of competition for Simon Amor's men, which saw them record victories over much fancied New Zealand and South Africa en route to the final.

And for James 'Cubby' Davies, a silver medal does not begin to tell the story of a fantastic individual tournament, with the 25-year-old starting all six of Team GB's games and winning widespread praise for his dynamic work at the breakdown and ability to link up play in the loose.

Indeed, his displays were aptly rewarded this morning when he and teammate Dan Bibby were named in the offical 7s 'team of the tournament'.

The former Pembrokeshire Schools and Youth player, who represented Whitland RFC and the Carmarthen Quins before joining the Wales 7s set-up and then the Scarlets, has now become the first person to have represented Pembrokeshire in any sport and then gone on to claim an Olympic medal.

He is also now joined by Sam Cross, and Team GB 7's Women's player Jasmine Joyce, as one of only three Welsh players to have played rugby at the Olympic Games.

In the final, Fiji dominated the first half, scoring five unanswered tries to lead 29-0 at the break.

Team GB turned around with a strong wind behind them, but it was the Fijians who crossed two more times, with Dan Norton grabbing a consolation score for Amor's side.
