IT was double delight for Pembrokeshire’s Llew Bevan after he won two titles on consecutive nights.

Bevan took the title at the Welsh Darts Organisation Members Singles event held in Thomastown on Saturday, September 9, and just 24 hours later also secured the Red Dragon Welsh Individual Championships title.

Bevan, from Maenclochog, cruised through to the semi-finals of the Thomastown event with 4-1 (79.04 average), 4-0 (100.2 average), 4-2 (94.62 average), and 4-1 (89.85 average) wins.

He then beat Tim Jones 5-0 in the semi-final – with a 97.6 average – to set up a final against Wales international Sam Cankett in the final.

In a tense match at Thomastown Social Club, Bevan edged out Cankett, from Gwent, for a 6-5 win in the eleventh and deciding leg.

In the Welsh Individual Championship, Bevan recorded 4-1 (71.74 average), 4-1 (86.97 average), 4-1 (86.93) and 5-2 (84.6 average) wins to set up a second final in two days against the same opponent.

But inspired by his performance in Thomastown, Bevan secured a commanding 6-2 win over the defending champion.

He averaged an impressive 96.68 in the final on the Sunday, compared to 83.5 the previous night.

“I played really well on the Saturday,” he said. “It’s the best I’ve played in a while.

“I rode my luck a bit on the Sunday, but I then played the best I have played in a final.

“I didn’t really know what to expect. It’s the first time I’ve played in [either of the tournaments].

“I knew if I played like I know that I can then I’d have a chance of winning, but the standard of competition is so high.

“I wasn’t expecting to win one of them – let alone both!

“After winning on the Saturday I was talking to my girlfriend and said ‘Tomorrow’s just a bonus. I’ve got nothing to lose and can just relax and play’.”
